12.07.2012 Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs

It has been an amazing Summer season for us. When we started our company, we never imagined how many opportunities we would get to see new places. We are so grateful to all our wonderful clients for bringing us along. We just returned from a 4 day wedding weekend in Colorado Springs. Zeus and I were completely awestruck by the beauty. We heard about the fires before going and our hearts go out to the people and families affected by it. There was an outpouring of gratitude and support for all the firefighters that were helping to contain the devastation. We were some miles away and it was about 80% contained when we arrived, so we were fortunate enough to be able to see and enjoy the area.

On our first day, we decided to go scout out the Garden of the Gods for good shooting locations. It is a National Park with looming red rocks. It is just spectacular. Being city folk, we were fascinated by the wildlife around us. Deer, bunnies, different birds… I had my heart set on a night timelapse but the cloud cover all weekend nixed that plan. All the same, it was a great experience. We ended up taking about a couple hundred photos of rocks! Here are a few of our favorites.

Cathedral rock.

Balanced rock.

Taking it all in.

I’m convinced that when I retire I will become an avid bird watcher.

Fun Fact: Katharine Lee Bates, professor at Wellesley College (my Alma Mater), wrote the poem that later became known as “America the Beautiful” while on an expedition at Pikes Peak which overlooks the Garden of the Gods. I sang that song countless times during my 4 years of college and it was amazing to see the sight that inspired it.

Needless to say, we fell in love with Colorado. Liz and Chad’s wedding was so fun and we were delighted to get to know them and their families over the 4 day celebration. For now, it’s back to editing! Stay tuned for more highlight posts on our blog coming VERY SOON.
